Ms. Jenelle Tookes is a sixth year, 4th grade teacher at Macon County Elementary School in Oglethorpe, Georgia. Ms. Tookes serves as the 4th grade Chair and on the leadership team.  She is the daughter of the late James Tookes and Jeneverlyn Greene Tookes. Ms. Tookes is the mother of three sons: Jalen, Jace, and Jakwon, all of whom attended school in Macon County. She attributes her desire to become an educator to her mother’s influence, a retired teacher. In her own words, she realized her calling later in life and chose to continue her education at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. It is here that she earned her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist’ degrees in Early Childhood Education. Her philosophy for early learning is that all children deserve an educational foundation that will encourage an aspiration for lifelong learning. When asked why she chose to pursue a career in education, she stated, “I love teaching and learning. I believe learning helps us grow into productive, caring, and knowledgeable people. In turn, this will help our community grow and thrive. Macon County is a great place to live with wonderful children. I am so glad I have the opportunity to work in this school system.”
